WINTER JAZZ PROGRAM

Many regional high schools have no or little jazz ensemble education for their students. Schools have fine student musicians that either do not make it into their jazz bands because of limited space or are unable to participate because of scheduling. The N.Y.M.P. would like to create a musically challenging jazz experience for these students.

The main goal of the N.Y.M.P. winter jazz program is to give music students who have little opportunity to play jazz a chance to take part in a high quality jazz big band experience. Students from 8th grade through high school may take part. A younger student may audition. Instruments involved include traditional big band instrumentation: sax, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, and bass guitar. Those students wishing to play drum set at the program must have at least one year drum set training. Other instrumentalists may also be accepted. The jazz program will be held every other Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

The winter jazz program will take place at Hermantown Middle School Ugstad and Arrowhead Road. Tuition is $100 . (there is a service charge to pay on line) the Last date to register is January 2014. Please contact Bob if you need tuition assistance or have other questions. To take part in the N.Y.M.P. Winter Jazz Program you must be involved in your school band or orchestra program, unless you are home schooled. 2014 Auditions will 10 a.m. to noon at Hermantown Middle School date to be announced
